Where to Stay in Burleigh Heads Without a Car

A car-free Burleigh holiday can feel refreshingly simple: beach in the morning, lunch around James Street and no hunt for a parking space. The trick is choosing the right street. A beachfront address may sit farther from the station, while a headland-side apartment can add a slope or a longer walk with luggage. Test the journeys you will actually make before booking.
The street matters more than the suburb name

Think of these as four starting areas, not promises about a particular building. Before paying a deposit, put the property entrance—not merely “Burleigh Heads”—into the Translink journey planner and a map.
Arriving from Gold Coast Airport
Translink’s current route 777 timetable shows airport services stopping at Palm Beach, Nineteenth Avenue, Twenty Seventh Avenue and Burleigh Heads station before continuing to Stockland Burleigh Heads. For central Burleigh accommodation, Burleigh Heads station is the stop to investigate; Stockland is the inland terminus, not the beachfront village.
Burleigh Heads station also serves the L1 tram and local buses. Service patterns can change, so plan for the arrival date and time shown on your flight rather than relying on a remembered route. Include the walk from the platform with luggage, and ask the property how after-hours key collection works if reception will be closed.
Four journeys reveal whether an address will work
- Arrival: airport or rail connection to the building entrance with luggage.
- Everyday supplies: the route to groceries, a pharmacy or takeaway food.
- Evening return: dinner back to the accommodation at the time you expect to travel.
- One major outing: a realistic door-to-door trip, including the return service and waiting time.
A bus stop around the corner can still produce an awkward journey if it sits on the wrong side of the road or the trip needs a transfer. Look at the whole route. Where stairs, steep approaches or step-free access matter, ask the property about the precise path to the room; a map cannot answer that.
Five useful starting points
On Goodwin Terrace, Bujerum Apartments and Burleigh Beach Tower put the beach and headland side of town close at hand. Bujerum is a small walk-up, an important detail with heavy bags, a pram or limited mobility.
The other three illustrate different positions. Swell Resort has one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments at 1 Ocean Street; Paradise Grove Holiday Apartments is a separate accommodation business with two- and three-bedroom units at 7 West Burleigh Road; and Sandbar Burleigh sits on Gold Coast Highway near the northern side of central Burleigh. Plot each entrance against the station, the beach and the places where you expect to eat.

If you bring or hire a car for only part of the stay
Central Burleigh falls within the Mermaid to Burleigh Heads Traffic Area. The City currently states a maximum three-hour limit from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday unless signed otherwise, including streets without parking signs. Separate signed and metered restrictions apply in the commercial and beachfront streets. That makes confirmed accommodation parking more useful than an assumption that nearby street parking will cover the whole stay.
A part-stay rental can make sense for hinterland or northern theme-park days while leaving the local portion of the holiday walkable. A booking checklist for a car-free stay
- Save the exact street address and property contact details offline.
- Confirm the building entrance, lift or stair arrangement and after-hours key collection.
- Check the current route for your arrival date and the last practical service after dinner.
- Compare a room with kitchen or laundry facilities if it reduces extra shopping or travel.
- Check the total price, cancellation deadline and room category before booking.
