Gold Coast Airport to Burleigh Heads: Bus, Taxi or Car Hire?
By the ParadiseGrove editorial team · Last checked 9 September 2026
For a stay centred on Burleigh Heads, start by checking the airport bus against your accommodation address. A taxi or rideshare can simplify the last leg with luggage. Hiring a car makes more sense when you will use it during the holiday, not just for the airport transfer.
Which transfer would we choose?
For a solo traveller with a small bag and a central Burleigh stay, start with the 777 and compare the final walk. For a family arriving with cases and tired children, a prearranged door-to-door vehicle may make the first afternoon easier. For a week with several hinterland or northern-coast outings, compare a rental for those days with separate transfers.
For a beach-and-town weekend, start by choosing accommodation within walking distance of your likely meals and beach access. That can make a rental unnecessary for much of the stay.
The bus route changed in September 2026
Translink changed the local network on 7 September 2026. Its current service update says route 777 now operates between Gold Coast Airport and Stockland Burleigh Heads, rather than continuing to Broadbeach South. Older airport directions may still describe the previous route.
Use the Translink journey planner with your travel date and exact accommodation address. For a beachfront stay, check the stop and final walk before boarding; Stockland is the route’s terminus, not the town’s beachfront.
Compare the three options
| Option | When it fits | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Public bus | Travelling light and keeping transfer costs down | Arrival-time service, correct stop and final walk |
| Taxi or rideshare | A direct trip with bags or several passengers | Live price, vehicle capacity and pickup instructions |
| Hire car | Several outings beyond the immediate Burleigh area | Full rental cost, collection hours and accommodation parking |
A bus fare and a car quote are not directly comparable: the fare is per passenger, while a vehicle carries a group within its seating and luggage limits. Work out the cost for your actual party.
Taking the bus from the airport
Translink currently publishes a 50-cent flat fare across its network, including South East Queensland buses; Brisbane Airtrain is excluded. Check the current ticketing instructions before boarding. The SEQ network is cashless.
- Enter Gold Coast Airport as your starting point and your street address as the destination.
- Choose a departure time that allows for baggage collection and arrival formalities.
- Check the walking section and any connection, especially with a pram or mobility equipment.
- Recheck service updates shortly before the trip.
Use the planner's door-to-door estimate for your date, including waiting and walking time. If your flight arrives late, check the last suitable departure and keep a taxi alternative.
Taxi, rideshare and prebooked transfers
The airport transport guide explains the available options and pickup arrangements. Follow current terminal signs, and check the pickup point in your booking app before requesting a car.
Request a quote for your accommodation, not just “Burleigh”. Compare airport charges, waiting charges, cancellation conditions and luggage capacity. For a prebooked transfer, ask what happens if the flight is delayed. If your party needs a child restraint or a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, confirm the exact arrangement with the provider before booking.
When a hire car earns its place in the budget
Price car hire if you are planning several separate outings and want control over departure times. For a short stay spent around the beach and town centre, first compare the bus and occasional taxi against rental charges plus parking.
Check licence and driver requirements, deposit, excess, fuel policy, additional-driver fees, child-seat availability and collection hours. Ask your accommodation whether parking is included and whether a space is guaranteed. Include those extras when comparing the total with separate transfers.

Check Europcar car hire at Gold Coast Airport
This is one rental option, not a claim that Europcar is cheapest. The airport's official transport information is a useful starting point for alternatives.
Plan the return before the holiday starts
Work backwards from your airline's check-in deadline. Add the transfer itself, time for traffic or a missed connection, and any car-return or refuelling requirements. Keep your booking details available offline.
